The International Capoeira Angola Foundation (known by its acronym ICAF or in Portuguese, Fundação Internacional de Capoeira de Angola or FICA) is a non-profit international organization dedicated to the practice, preservation and growth of the African Brazilian cultural art form Capoeira Angola, as well as the promotion of activities that empower and enrich communities and their youth.
The FICA Hilo Hawai’i Study Group has been training in Hawai’i on the east side of the Hawai’i Island, also called the Big Island, in Hilo town as well as Pahoa since the beginning of 2005. Joe Hoffman, a student of Mestre Jurandir, started coordinating the trainings and events. Since Treinel Quero Ir moved here in 2010, ongoing classes are led by her and Joe. Our efforts have been continually supported by Mestre Jurandir and Mestre Silvinho, who oversee the study group with regular visits and special workshops.
