Capoeira Angola in Hawaii

The International Capoeira Angola Foundation (ICAF in English – FICA in Portuguese) is a non-profit international organization dedicated to the practice, preservation and growth of the African Brazilian cultural art form Capoeira Angola, as well as the promotion of activities that empower and enrich commuities and their youth. More information about the international organization can be found at ficamundo.org.

The FICA Hawai’i Study Group has been training in Hawai’i on the east side of the Hawai’i Island, also called the Big Island, in Hilo town as well as Pahoa since the beginning of 2005.  Trenel Joe, a student of Mestre Jurandir, started coordinating the trainings and events. Classes are led by group leaders Trenel Joe Hoffman and Criss Poteat. Our efforts have been continually supported by Mestre Jurandir and Mestre Silvinho, who oversee the study group with regular visits and special workshops.
